The Forbidden City was so called because entry to commoners was strictly forbidden .
Comprising of about 980 buildings, the Forbidden city covers about 720,000 sq.m.area.

Once you enter these gates, there is only one way to go....forward !
Once home to the Emperor and his family and the offices, this huge complex now houses museums.
Good luck! |

ReplyDeleteI like the background story. Nice pictures too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating place. So huge, and everything is museums?? it's so sad that they make such things so commercial :(
ReplyDelete:-) I am thinking of the movies and books I've read that were set in the Forbidden City. Fascinating. Love the little birdie.
ReplyDeleteI remember visiting the Forbidden City for the first time when I was 15. Our tour guide's name was Shrek. It's a very regal and intimidating place--and if you go during the summer, as I did, it's unbearably hot and humid.
ReplyDeleteNo turning back, only forward. That's interesting. Nice pictures.
